Ethos Wilder is our flagship environmental project currently being incubated on our work platform. Ethos VO and our Young Leaders venture are working in partnership with some amazing brands including Amazon, Atkins Consulting, Eden Smith and the University of Salford. The potential of this project is enormous. Our biggest success to date is helping to launch a ground breaking conversation at St Georges House Windsor, on 24 February entitled Thriving Places for Nature and People.

To take this opportunity forward into the future we need a Volunteer Chief Technology Officer to help set up Ethos Wilder Sensing. IoT, ML and Big Data.

Can You Help to Integrate Technology and Nature?

To better understand what’s happening in our natural environment we need more data – and IoT/ML is a fantastic way of scaling data capture, its interpretation and sharing the results to improve future projects.

Wilder Sensing aims to bring together many environmental IoT technologies such as audio sensors, video, water quality, climate etc and combine them with other data sources such as satellite, eDNA etc to provide land managers better understand what’s happening in their landscape as a result of changes they have made to how their site is being managed. Over time this will enable better environmental interventions to be designed, quantifying the unintended consequences, and providing evidence to sponsors and investors that the changes happening in the landscape are delivering the target outcomes.

We are building a proof of concept with the support of Amazon Web Services and a team of M.Sc. Big Data students from the University of Salford with an aim to complete this in 2022.

We need to recruit a volunteer CTO (as yet we don’t have any external funding – but we are working on this) to architect the core solution and mentor the students. The ideal candidate would ideally be based in the UK, have a sound understanding of AWS, Machine Learning/Sagemaker and R/Python, love working and coaching bright students and a passion for nature and supporting its recovery.

Any experience of developing sensors would be fantastic.

The successful candidate would become an Ethos Partner.

You could be a key member of an ambitious project to help restore the balance of nature around the world.

This is a volunteer role in the short term and we are focussed on raising funds in the next few months.

Wilder Sensing is being incubated in EthosVO – a social impact platform with a distinctive approach to  recognising the value volunteers bring. See how we work with our unique Value Exchange Dynamic

The role is home based.
