Young Somerset exists to promote the social welfare and the preservation of the health and wellbeing of young people in the county by the provision of information, advice and guidance. Their aim is to engage them in leisure time activities, to develop their physical, mental and spiritual capabilities so that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society and that their conditions of life may be improved.

WHY WE PARTNERED

We searched out partner organisations who could help us further test and realise the potential of Young Leaders basic income kickstart project during the pandemic. Young Somerset offers young people ways to avert becoming “NEET” - not in Education, Employment or Training. This purpose aligned perfectly with our project values and intentions; to use our person-centred ethos of collaborative partnership to help each young person explore and build on their individual strengths - putting them firmly at the centre of their future.

WHAT OUTCOMES DO WE SEEK?

Students will have overcome the barriers and developed the personal skills and employment skills that will be crucial for moving into, or sustaining, education, employment or training outcomes. They will have been made aware of alternative ranges of ongoing transition routes into education, employment or training - ready to move as and when they are ready. Young people will feel empowered to identify which interventions and support offerings are best suited to their individual needs and have autonomy over their own pathways.
