TeamPolice (an initiative supported by Ethos Wellbeing ventures) has attracted £348k of funding from the National Lottery to launch a trial sport and wellbeing initiative for the Police

The latest TeamPolice project is 1TeamActive – a pilot sport and activity programme in partnership with Sport England. The aim of the one year pilot will be to improve the health, lifestyle, and wellbeing of serving police officers, staff, volunteers and their families.

The pilot will involve four Police Forces each hosting three events in spring, summer, and autumn. These 1TeamActive ‘introduction days’ will provide opportunities to try different activities in a supportive, fun and encouraging environment. This will be followed by an 8 to 12 week activity programme supported by online resources and training classes. The support will cover all levels of ability to enable full family participation. Ethos Partner, Gavin Thomas, OBE, is the former president of the Police Superintendents Association and a guiding light behind the TeamPolice initiative. He says,

“I am delighted that TeamPolice has achieved this award. We look forward to working with Sport England to deliver our goal of helping improve the wellbeing of everyone who is serving and has served in our UK Police Forces by enabling increased participation in sport and physical activity. This project extends the remit to families and recognises the unique contribution they make to their communities: the very nature of policing work presents stressful situations that most of the population will never have to experience.”
